The Pattachitra Story Line

  One of the oldest and most well-known art forms is the Pattachitra style of painting, which is mostly done in West Bengal and Odisha. The Sanskrit words "patta," which means cloth, and "chitra," which means picture, have combined to form the name Pattachitra. This art form, which is among the oldest and most well-known currently practised ones, is thought to have its roots in the 12th century. The Hindu mythology served as the primary inspiration for the icon paintings created by the Pattachitra artists, commonly referred to as chitrakars. Before painting, the canvas, also known as the "patta," is prepared by the painters by being covered in a mixture of chalk and gum (made from tamarind seeds).The cloth is then massaged with this mixture using two distinct stones.
